WES Releases R&D Services Call Video

Last month Wave Energy Scotland (WES) launched its first GBP 7 million international technology innovation competition.

WES aims to support and accelerate the development of wave energy technology in Scotland and was established as part of Highlands and Islands Enterprise, at the request of the Scottish Government, during December 2014.

The organisation will provide funding packages for the development of innovative technologies to produce low cost, efficient and reliable components and subsystems which can form the basis of the cost effective generation of wave energy in Scotland.

This competition will award technology development contracts for projects that will:

  • Provide a step change in the capital cost and/or efficiency/performance over current technology,
  • Deliver a highly reliable PTO via high quality engineering and technology risk management,
  • Fit into the overall cost of energy
  • Deliver a PTO that can be easily integrated into different wave energy converters (WECs) and WEC device families,
  • Develop a PTO that could stimulate a new form of Wave Energy convertor being developed.

To support applicants and provide further information on Wave Energy Scotland, HIE held a live webinar on 31 March.
