LongBay SeaPower Submits West Somerset Lagoon Details

The company behind the West Somerset Lagoon has submitted details about a forthcoming planning submission for its tidal energy project.

LongBay SeaPower proposes to harness the natural resources of the Bristol Channel to generate electricity.

The GBP 2.4 billion project would comprise a continuous breakwater wall, approximately 21 km long, spanning from Culvercliff in Minehead to Lilstock.

According to the developer, the tidal lagoon would cover 50 square kilometers and have a generating capacity of circa 2.8GW per annum.

The application is expected to be submitted to the Planning Inspectorate in the second quarter of 2018.
