Windfarm Update: Amrumbank West
Foundation installation work at the 288MW Amrumbank West offshore wind farm is in full progress.
At the end of September Ballast Nedam Offshore completed their contract for 19 foundations, using their heavy-lift vessel Svanen after which the MPI Discovery, which was previously working on the Humber Gateway wind farm, continued installing the remaining foundations. The foundations are transported from the Cuxport terminal in Cuxhaven where they are stored.
Amrumbank Westis a project by E.ON Climate S Renewables GmbH. It is located 35km northwest of the island of Helgoland covering an area of 32 km2. 80 Siemens 3.6MW turbines will be producing enough electricity to provide around 300,000 households in their annual electricity needs. The wind farm is scheduled to be completed and to enter service in the late summer of 2015. An operations base was built on the island of Helgoland from where it will be operated.
