Wind Energy Production Up, Says DECC

The latest provisional monthly energy statistics produced by the Department of Energy and Climate Change were released today.

DECC Releases Energy StatisticsAccording to the report, in the three months to February 2014, supply of coal, gas and nuclear power fell on the same period a year earlier, while the suply from wind, hydro and bioenergy rose.

Wind energy supply was up by 54 percent (+3.3 TWh), due to higher wind speeds in all three months as well as increased capacity. The average wind speed for this period was 11.9 knots, 3.2 knots higher comparing to the last year.

Of total wind generation, 42 percent was from offshore. Offshore wind generation was up 39 percent (+1.1 TWh) compared with a year ago, whilst onshore wind generation was up 68 percent.
