SeaKing Electrical Invests in Staff Training for Offshore Wind Sector

Merseyside industrial engineering firm SeaKing Electrical has undergone a major investment in staff training in a bid to drive growth in the marine, offshore and windfarm sectors.

The Birkenhead-based company has invested heavily across a number of areas including offshore survival training and working at heights.

Staff have undergone rigorous courses at the Offshore Survival Centre at Blackpool and The Fylde College, which is the only site on the UK’s west coast to deliver offshore survival training programmes.

SeaKing Electrical Group managing director Dave Gillam said the training drive will help to deliver even greater service standards and give the business a stronger competitive edge.

“This training is absolutely vital to the development of our staff, the future of our business and the overall service we provide clients,” he said.

“This is the latest development in a continual programme of employee engagement and improvement. However, it is part a larger and more significant drive to place the company is a much stronger position to offer clients the best possible service.

“The current training investment involved placing seven electrical engineers on industrial ropes access courses to enable them to work at height. It has further seen another seven staff achieve CompEx accreditations, which is the industry standard for electrotechnical and mechanical staff working in hazardous environments, and four staff learning about basic offshore survival.”

The Offshore Survival Centre, in Fleetwood, Lancashire, runs a range of training programmes focussed on areas such as firefighting, aviation, offshore, renewables and tide.

Mr Gillam said SeaKing Electrical can offer a complete electrical engineering service to the offshore and windfarm sectors including survey, design, build, installations and maintenance work.

He said the training initiative run by SeaKing showed its commitment to the continual development of staff.

“SeaKing believes strongly in nurturing new talent through our apprenticeship programme but also developing the staff we already have,” he said.

“The maritime, offshore and windfarm sectors across the North West and UK are expanding rapidly, as can be seen on projects such as West of Duddon off the Cumbrian coast and Ray Wind Farm in Northumberland. We must be prepared to meet the challenges which lay ahead.

“Ensuring our staff trained to the latest health and safety standards is a significant part of this plan. We are also keen to communicate our depth of experience, expertise and understanding of the latest industry trends. We see great potential for growth in these emerging markets and want to drive greater awareness of the specialist electrical engineering role we can offer.”
