UK: Mabey Bridge's Renewables Business Grows

The new-in-post senior management team appointed by wind turbine tower manufacturer Mabey Bridge to oversee an expansion in the company’s renewables interests has hit the ground running – securing orders for more than 30 towers in just two months.

Among the key contracts, won since the formation of Mabey Bridge’s new business line – Mabey Bridge Energy and Marine in September 2013 – is an order for 14 wind turbine towers for REpower and 18 towers for Vattenfall, which will be used to supply Clashindarroch Wind Farm in North East Scotland.

In addition Mabey Bridge Energy and Marine has dispatched a 35m tower, produced using a specialist fabrication facility for smaller components, as part of a larger order placed by direct-drive wind turbine manufacturer EWT. Other products recently dispatched include an offshore drill conductor for contractor Fugro Seacore, which will be used during the construction of Gwynt y Môr Offshore Wind Farm – currently the largest in construction anywhere in Europe.

The sales boost comes as the company prepares to unveil Mabey Bridge Energy and Marine’s new senior management team to the renewables industry for the first time at Renewable UK’s Annual Conference and Exhibition from 5-7 November 2013.

UK: Mabey Bridge's Renewables Business GrowsThe business is headed by Mark Coia, who has taken the new position of ‘Managing Director – Mabey Bridge Energy and Marine’, reporting directly into Mabey Bridge’s CEO Chris Droogan. New positions have also been created for Claus Poulsen, Sales Director – Renewables and Gerry Voller, Sales Director – Tubular Products. Gerry’s brief is to broaden Mabey Bridge’s reach in markets including port and offshore marine contracts, tidal work and project infrastructure, while Claus will focus on developing new opportunities in the renewables market.

Mark Coia, Managing Director of Mabey Bridge Energy and Marine, said: “Over and above being the UK wind turbine tower supplier of choice, Mabey Bridge has ambitious plans to expand its offering to the sector with additional products such in tubular structures and monopiles for use in both onshore or offshore projects – all of which we can deliver to a high standard from our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chepstow.

“Initial market reception to Mabey Bridge Energy and Marine has been extremely positive, with the new team already securing a number of key contracts. We are confident that the team’s expertise, combined with their desire to drive the business forward, will result in strong long term financial returns, and an excellent service to the renewables industry.”
