City of Corner Brook Welcomes Offshore Wind Announcement (Canada)

The City of Corner Brook is encouraged by the announcement that Beothuk Energy is working toward establishing a manufacturing facility in Corner Brook for offshore wind farm gravity based structures.

“This announcement, with the promise of as many as 600 to 1000 jobs, is excellent news for Corner Brook and the entire west coast,” said Mayor Neville Greeley. “This announcement represents the kind of strong economic development that the City of Corner Brook is interested in supporting and encouraging for the benefit of the entire west coast.”

In choosing Corner Brook for the location of the manufacturing facility, Beothuk Energy President and CEO Kirby Mercer cited the city’s deep water port and proximity to the North American coastline and major energy markets in Canada and the United States as deciding factors.

“These natural attributes are the assets that we need to continue to promote in order to attract industry to our region,” said Mayor Greeley. “The City is looking forward to learning more about this exciting opportunity and working with Beothuk Energy and the Corner Brook Port Corporation to help ensure that it becomes a reality.”
