UK ORE Catapult Strengthens Board with Miriam Greenwood Appointment

The Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, the Glasgow-based UK innovation centre established by the UK Government’s Technology Strategy Board to accelerate the growth and commercialisation of offshore wind, wave and tidal technologies, has strengthened its Board with the appointment of leading financier Miriam Greenwood OBE DL as a non-executive director.

With qualifications as a barrister and in corporate finance, Miriam has spent more than 25 years working for a number of leading investment banks and other financial institutions.

Miriam is already a non-executive director of Henderson Global Trust plc, Eclipse Shipping Limited and Mithras Investment Trust plc, and was for nine years on the board of Ofgem.

She is also currently chair of the Gas Network Innovation Expert Panel, a Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh, and in 2000 was awarded an OBE for services to corporate finance.

Miriam joins a distinguished ORE Catapult board under the chairmanship of Colin Hood, a former chief operating officer of SSE.

 Chairman Colin Hood said: “Miriam’s particular skills and expertise complement and enhance those of our Board, supporting our experienced and growing management team, headed up by chief executive Andrew Jamieson. With £46m funding approved by the Technology Strategy Board, and four important pilot projects underway, we are now well on our way to making a significant difference to the UK’s offshore renewable energy sector. Our aim is to make the sector a world-beating engine of innovation and economic growth.”

The other members of the Board are:

Professor Sir Jim McDonald, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, who is chairman of both the Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering and the Scottish Energy Technology Partnership, and co-chair with the First Minister of the Energy Advisory Board in Scotland;
