Germany: Foundation Pouring for M5000-135 Offshore Wind Turbine

Germany Foundation Pouring for M5000-135 Offshore Wind Turbine

With guests from politics and industry, AREVA Wind celebrated the pouring of concrete for the foundation intended for the wind turbine prototype M5000-135. The event took place close to the motorway A27 in Bremerhaven.

M5000-135 is the new version of the M5000, which has already proven itself at German first offshore wind farm Alpha Ventus.

Together with the Mayor of Bremerhaven, Melf Grantz, Bremen’s Senator for Economics, Labour and Ports, Martin Günthner, CEO of WAB Ronny Meyer and other guests, Jean Huby, CEO of AREVA Wind, celebrated an important phase of the M5000-135 prototype’s deployment.

Around 1500m ³ of concrete were needed for the foundation.

With the consequent optimization of the design, the M5000-135 expands AREVA Wind’s product platform and offers its customers a more energy efficient power production offshore.

After successful installation, the 5MW wind turbine will have a height from ground to hub of 130 meters. With the prototype AREVA Wind is able to operate all optimized systems and components under real life conditions. So the company will gain valuable experiences for the future operation of the M5000-135 offshore.

AREVA Wind assumes that the installation of the wind energy converter will be completed in the third quarter of 2013.
