India Plans to Install Offshore Wind Turbines

India is planning to become number one in wind power generation, writes India TV news portal.

In order to do so, the country is considering installation of offshore wind turbines. This was announced at the “Wind Power India 2012” conference by Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah who said: “We are also thinking that the time has come to go into the sea to generate more power from there also.”

He continued: “We have a plan of adding 3000MW per year as far as wind power is concerned. If generation based incentive is given, industry can grow further and can be motivated in producing more power”.

Solar energy was also mentioned at this event, as the government is planning to install 60 stations.

To be able to connect the proposed power plants to the grid, Minister Farooq stressed that the Tamil Nadu Government needs to improve power transmission system.
