UK: Inquiry into Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm Cabling Route Begins

The inquiry into the 28km cabling route from Weybourne to Great Ryburgh began yesterday, EDP 24 informed.

Even though the North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) initiated the appeal hearing, due to a lack of money, they will not be opposing the evidence proposed by the Warwick Energy.

The company decided to go with the underground cables to minimize environmental and visual impact, instead of installing an army of pylons through the land.

Representing Warwick Energy, Richard Kimblin said:

“It was somewhat frustrating for the proposal to be met with objections on landscape grounds.”

“The appellant’s case is that the long term effects of the proposal will be of landscape benefits. In particular… as a direct result of this scheme very many hedges will be reinstated and improved. “

“The cable route and reinstatement methods will ensure adverse landscape and visual effects are minimised as far as reasonably practicable.”

The Warwick Energy is planning to build Dudgeon offshore windfarm worth GBP 1.5bn. The wind farm will consist of 168 turbines which will be installed off the coast of Cromer.
