Japanese Firms to Construct Floating Wind Farm

Marubeni Corp led group is planning to build floating a test wind farm off the coast Fukushima Prefecture, reports Jiji Press.

The project is planned to generate 12 MW after its completion in 2016. This would supply the needs of more than 100,000 households.

Besides Marubeni, the consortium members are Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd, Nippon Steel Corp and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry included the 12.5-billion-yen project in the third supplementary budget for fiscal 2011.
