Dr Steven Freeman Joins PMSS to Head-up Environmental Services Consultancy (UK)

Specialist renewable energy consulting firm PMSS today announced that Dr Steven Freeman is to join the company as the new head of their Environmental consultancy business.

Steven Freeman has a 20 year record of achievement in environmental management, research and consultancy in coastal and marine waters globally, and has held a number of senior positions with a strong technical focus in offshore renewables and the oil and gas sectors.

Prior to signing his contract with PMSS, Steven was Technical Director, and then Consultancy Director and a Board Member at specialist consultancy Emu Ltd, where he was responsible for the commercial and operational management of the Consultancy Division. Steven currently holds key roles in the consent programme for Hornsea and Dogger Bank Round 3 wind farm Zones and Neart na Gaoithe in Scottish territorial waters.

Steven provides advice to RenewableUK’s Consent & Licensing Group and foreign governments on a broad range of topics including consent in offshore renewables, environmental policy, fisheries and research. He was instrumental in developing methodologies for cumulative impact assessments and ZAP guidance for Round 3, Regional Environmental Assessments, the Water Framework Directive, the UK Government’s Marine Spatial Planning Pilot, and Trinidad and Tobago’s first SEA for the oil and gas sector.

Steven has a PhD in Marine Biology and has lectured on bio-chemistry at the University of Surrey and ecology at the University of Wales. He is author of several book chapters and numerous scientific papers and technical reports.

Steven joins PMSS as the director of its Environmental Services business and a board member of the PMSS group. Steven will lead a well established team of environmental consultants, scientists and GIS consultants who are already engaged on a number of high profile offshore wind and wave and tidal contracts. Steven will also seek to recruit a number of specialist environmental staff and grow the team to provide a resilient, professional service to our clients.
