Vestas Receives 100 MW Order in Germany

With reference to Vestas Wind Systems A/S’ company announcement No. 50/2010 of 30 December 2010, a German customer has placed a large order with Vestas for turbines for various projects in Hessen, Mecklenburg-West Pomerania and Brandenburg in Germany.

At the customer’s request, additional details about the customer and the projects cannot be disclosed.

The order has a total capacity of 100 MW, which consists of 12 units of the V112-3.0 MW turbine and 32 units of V90-2.0 MW turbine. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011. The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines as well as a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system.

“This order shows the appeal of Vestas’ range of wind turbines for our customers and the diverse wind projects they are developing,” says Hans Jörn Rieks, President of Vestas Central Europe.

“With these projects, we can truly show that Vestas has built an outstanding and hard-working turbine for every site in the world. With this order, we are particularly excited that we can install the V112-3.0 MW at locations for which it has been designed – low and medium wind classes, such as those found in Germany’s midland in Hessen,” says Hans Jörn Rieks, President of Vestas Central Europe. “In addition, the wind park’s output will be further increased by Vestas’ new 140 m towers for the V112-3.0 MW turbine.”

“As Germany is one of the most mature and developed wind energy markets, competition is very strong, and we are pleased to see Vestas continuing to show our strong value to customers,” he concludes.

About the V112-3.0 MW turbine

The V112-3.0 MW turbine is the product of Vestas’ 30 years of knowledge and passion for wind energy and the experience that comes with installing over 41,000 turbines in 65 countries across five continents. Vestas’ focus on constant innovation and on applying new technological solutions results in increased performance of our wind turbines and a low cost of energy – ensuring a top-quality business case that generates a solid return on investment for our customers.

This result comes from exhaustive design solutions and subsequent testing of the V112-3.0 MW to optimise the performance of all components and minimise turbine downtime for servicing. A new blade profile, nacelle design and cooling-system deliver optimised operation, while the new generator and full-scale converter technology deliver high, stable plant output complying with most stringent grid requirements worldwide.

The V112-3.0 MW also demonstrates Vestas’ focus on providing solutions for the entire global wind energy sector: A turbine that offers a better way to harness the world’s ample supplies of low and medium winds and provides excellent grid support contributing to higher grid stability, and a turbine that is easier to transport and install in sites where installing a wind farm presents significant challenges. In addition, the turbine offers very competitive noise performance through configurable noise modes with minimal loss of production.
