ODE Secures New Offshore Wind Contract in South Korea

Green Investment Group (GIG) has selected Offshore Design Engineering (ODE) as an Owner’s Engineer and Package Manager for its offshore wind farms in South Korea.

For GIG, ODE will manage a range of packages including foundations, cables, electrical interface, and onshore engineering, and will support GIG through the concept, FEED and detailed design engineering phases on projects totalling over 500 MW.

The company will execute the contract from its Korea office, opened in January 2021, for whose operations this is a significant milestone, according to Jinho Paik, ODE’s Korea Country Manager.

Just last month, ODE secured an Owner’s Engineer contract, together with Arup, with Hyundai Engineering Corporation for a 220 MW offshore wind project in the country.

Back in 2019, Macquarie-owned GIG installed the first floating LiDAR at a site offshore Ulsan, thus launching a 1.4 GW offshore wind project planned to be built in three phases.

Last year, the company signed a series of agreements with Total (now TotalEnergies) to co-develop an initial 2.3 GW portfolio of floating offshore wind projects in the country, which consists of five projects: three in Ulsan totalling 1.5 GW and two in South Jeolla Province totalling 800 MW.

The first 500 MW phase of the Ulsan project is targeting commencement of construction by the end of 2023.
