DEME Offshore’s jack-up vessel Innovation has completed the installation of the 94 monopile foundations at the Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind project.

The installation, which began in mid-January in the Dutch North Sea, was completed on time despite the COVID-19 crisis, DEME said.

Sif provided 47 monopiles for the project and EEW SPC, the parent company of EEW OSB, delivered the remaining 47 pieces.

Bladt Industries was responsible for the 59 transition pieces and EEW OSB for supplying 35 units.

According to Klaasjaap Buijs, Construction Manager for Borssele 1&2, so far 20 turbines have been installed at the site, as well as 74 of the 94 cables.

“Even with our strict COVID-19 measures we are well on track with the construction of the wind farm. In the last few weeks we even had three jack-up vessels, two cable installation and burial vessels, two SOVs, one supply vessel and 11 CTVs on site. I’ve never seen such a busy site.” said Buijs.

Borssele 1 & 2 will comprise 94 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW units and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
