Seagreen Tees Off Onshore Cable Route Development

SSE Renewables has reached a voluntary land agreement for the development of the underground cable route for the Seagreen offshore wind project in Scotland.

The deal was reached with Angus Council, Carnoustie Golf Links Management Committee (CGLMC), and other key landowners to allow the development of the underground cable route to the Tealing substation.

“We’re delighted to have reached this agreement as we are very conscious of the importance of Carnoustie Golf Links to the Angus economy,” said John Hill, Seagreen’s Project Director.

“This agreement is a further step forward in progressing what will become Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, helping to meet Scotland’s net-zero targets and tackle climate change, while also protecting Carnoustie’s place as a world leading golf destination and host for major championship golf.”

Seagreen, which is still subject to a Final Investment Decision, comprises the Seagreen Alpha and Bravo offshore wind farms.

The 1,075 MW project will feature up to 114 MHI Vestas turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2024.

It is one of the projects that won Contracts for Difference (CfD) in the UK’s third allocation round in September last year.
