The assessment included determining the wind climate for the area and verifying it by using data from met masts and floating buoys with measuring instruments on them.

The data was then combined with the already existing data from The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).

The wind resource assessment is used as input for the modeling of wind farms and/or estimating the future energy production of a wind farm. According to Pondera Consult, the study aims to reduce the uncertainties for a project, which might also lead to lower project costs.

The consortium was selected in October last year to support the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) in the assessment.

Hollandse Kust (Noord) is one of the offshore wind zones designated by the Dutch government, with a total power output of 700MW. It is located 18.5km off the coast and is one of the six new offshore wind zones which will be developed in the Dutch North Sea.
