Favourable weather conditions enabled the 48-turbine wind farm to generate 40% more electricity than was previously projected. The projections were based on long-term averages in the region for the month of October.

Overall, Westermeerwind has generated 800 GWh of electricity since he start of the operations, covering electricity needs of around 260,000 average Dutch households and saving 440,000 tonnes of CO2 in the process.

Located in the waters of the IJsselmeer, the Westermeerwind wind farm was officially opened in June 2016.

The wind farm comprises 48 Siemens 3MW turbines installed in two rows along the dikes of the Noordoostpolder.
