VOS Start Set to Commence Walney Extension Ops in August

VOS Start was christened yesterday, 20 July, at a ceremony held at Damen Shiprepair in Amsterdam. The vessel will be delivered to MHI Vestas in August, starting its first charter at the Walney Extension offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.

The vessel, named by Mrs Tracie Moyes from MHI Vestas yesterday, will provide offshore logistics support, accommodation and walk-to-work services during the installation and commissioning of 40 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines at the 659MW Walney Extension wind farm.

VOS Start is Vroon’s first subsea support walk-to-work vessel and has been purpose built to support offshore operations in renewable energy industry and walk-to-work projects in oil & gas.

The vessel is equipped with a Barge Master motion-compensated gangway system and an active heave-compensated crane built by SMST.

A sister vessel, VOS Stone, will be delivered to Vroon by Fujian Southeast Shipbuilding in China next week.
