Statoil Floats the Hywind Scotland Five

All five Siemens 6MW wind turbines for the Hywind Scotland wind farm have been mounted on their respective SPAR floating foundations off Stord, Norway, Statoil reports.

The assembled units are currently moored in the fjord off Leirvik and are undergoing final tests before being towed one by one to the installation site off the coast of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

The floating wind turbines have a total height of 258 meters, with 178 metres of the structures floating above water, and the remaining 80 metres submerged underwater.

The floating wind farm is owned by Statoil (75%) and Masdar (25%) and is expected to be commissioned in late 2017.
