The new building complex at DONG Energy’s 30,000 m2 North Sea O&M hub in the port of Norddeich is being added ahead of the start of construction of the 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm.

The preparatory works for the construction of the new facility have already started, DONG said.

With the new building, the company will have invested a total of around EUR 20 million in the Norddeich site.

DONG Energy has been operating out of the port of Norddeich since September 2013. So far, the company has managed the construction and operation of three offshore wind projects from the site – Borkum Riffgrund 1, Gode Wind 1 and Gode Wind 2.

Johann Bunte had already worked on the site as the general contractor during the expansion of the O&M hub in 2014.

Borkum Riffgrund 2 is located within the German Exclusive Economic Zone, approximately 17 kilometres east of the border between Germany and the Netherlands, and some 34km north of the island of Borkum.

The wind farm will comprise 56 MHI Vestas V164-8.0 MW wind turbines installed on 20 suction bucket jackets and 36 monopile foundations.

The wind farm is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2019.
