The firm came third by transaction volume, behind Allen & Overy and Linklaters, having advised on circa USD 4.4 billion of closed deals within the sector. WFW also dominates in North America by advised deal count.

With respect to offshore wind, the law firm had advised Erste Nordsee-Offshore-Holding GmbH, a joint subsidiary of STRABAG SE and, indirectly, Etanax GmbH, on the legal and tax aspects of the Global Tech II sale to Vattenfall, which was closed in August. The same month, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), backed by WFW, acquired 100% of OffshoreMW, which holds a 675km² offshore wind energy lease off the coast of Massachusetts.

On the WFW ranking among top renewables legal advisers in Q3, London Partner and Global Head of the Energy & Infrastructure sector, Evan Stergoulis, said: “Our market-leading position stems from the firm’s industry-focused approach, which ensures we have the strength and depth to advise on all aspects of transactions in the energy and infrastructure sectors and ensures that we can support our clients throughout the entire business lifecycle of their projects.”
