The company’s engineers will undertake inspection and surveillance planning services including assurance, quality, control and audit services on the sub-sea high voltage cable and the offshore platform that are currently under construction off the coast of Suffolk.

Galloper Wind Farm Ltd (GWFL) is the sister project to the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard Wind Farm. It will commence operation in March 2018.

The 56 Siemens wind turbines, each with a capacity of 6MW, will generate up to 336MW that will be transmitted to an onshore substation at Sizewell via the sub-sea high voltage cable. Overall it is anticipated that 700 jobs will be created during construction of the project with a further 90 expected to be created once it is operational.

“This is a crucial project for the region and the whole of the UK which we are proud to be a part of,” said Ian Matthews, head of project management at WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff quality services division.

”The team will build on its successful experience gained at the Gwynt y Môr and Greater Gabbard projects to ensure that construction exceeds quality standards. Renewables have a fundamental role to play as part of a balanced energy mix and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff is committed to supporting major UK energy suppliers in this field.”

The GBP 1.5 billion project, a joint equity partnership of 25% each between RWE Innogy UK, UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital, will generate enough clean energy for up to 336,000 UK households once built.
