Green Port Hull Opens Careers and Information Hub

Green Port Hull today launched a new careers and information hub, which will provide the latest updates on the Siemens and wider Green Port Hull developments.

Situated in Hull’s Central Library, The Hub will also provide an overview of other renewables projects in the region.

In addition, The Hub will be home to an exhibition about the Siemens development, enabling visitors to find out more about working in the offshore wind industry.

Run by the Green Port Growth Programme (GPGP) Skills and Employment Team, in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and Siemens, The Hub is equipped with IT pods so jobseekers can search for employment opportunities and apply for jobs online.

Bob Ferraby, Green Port Growth Programme’s Skills and Development Lead, will be based at The Hub and will deliver the Pathway to Employment programme. He explained: “This innovative project will be delivered by a local training provider through collaborative working across the Council, Jobcentre Plus and Siemens, helping to bridge the skills gap and support long-term unemployed people back in to work.

“The Pathways to Employment programme is a crucial step towards providing valuable work experience and employment opportunities with the renewables energy sector over the next three years.”

Carolyn Woolway, Siemens’ Head of Human Resources for the Hull project, said: “The Hub is an excellent facility which people can visit to find out more about a variety of aspects of the Siemens project and other investments across the area.

“This is also yet another example of the excellent collaboration between the Green Port Hull partners and the tremendous support Siemens has enjoyed ever since our investment plans in Hull were announced. We are sure it will be a valuable asset to the city, its people and business community.”

Gill Dillon, Employer and Partnership Manager, at Hull Jobcentre Plus, said: “We are really excited to be part of the team that will support local people in accessing the skills and training that they will need to apply for the jobs Green Port Hull will generate. Jobcentre Plus is delighted to work alongside Hull City Council and the local careers service to strengthen the support we offer, giving the people of Hull the best chance when applying for these roles.”
