Prysmian Wraps Up 66kV Subsea Cable System Testing

Prysmian Group has recently completed the electrical type tests on its 66kV complete submarine cable system.

Tests were carried out according to CIGRE and IEC testing protocols.

The tested solution – that includes also factory, field joints and click-fit terminations – combines the use of EPR insulation with the cost effectiveness of wet design and aluminium conductors (copper conductors are also available), the company said in a press release issued 16 November.

Prysmian stated that the success in the qualification of its 66kV system will provide the necessary confidence to offshore wind developers to step the intra-array system voltage up from the typical 33kV to 66kV, ensuring a significant reduction in Levelized Cost Of Electricity and a higher competitiveness of future wind energy systems.
