Galloper Takes First Construction Steps

This morning, RWE informed that the first steel for the topside of Galloper’s offshore substation is being cut in Hartlepool, marking the official kick-off of the construction phase.

RWE announced the construction start when the final investment decision was made at the end of the last month.

The 336MW Galloper offshore wind farm, which will be located close to its existing sister wind farm Greater Gabbard, will feature 56 Siemens 6MW wind turbines. GeoSea will install the foundations, while VBMS, nkt, JDR are in charge of cable work.

To develop the project, UK Green Investment Bank (GIB), Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital joined RWE Innogy, becoming 25% joint equity partners.

The offshore construction is scheduled to start in 2016 and the wind farm is expected to be fully operational two years later.
