Eversheds Advises Forewind on Dogger Bank

Following the news on Dogger Bank Teesside A & B approval, law firm Eversheds reported that it had advised the Forewind consortium on the second phase of Dogger Bank Teesside A & B offshore wind farm.

Eversheds also advised the consortium on an offshore wind energy project at Dogger Bank Creyke Beck. The two projects are expected to generate 16,820GWh (gigawatt hours) which is almost 5% of the total UK electricity generation supplied to the grid, enough energy to power approximately four million homes.

Eversheds provided technical work and analysis at an environment and policy level, particularly in relation to the offshore elements. The firm’s parliamentary agents developed solutions to the structuring of the consent documentation which resulted in the consenting of two major projects in a single Order incorporating flexible marine licences which will enables the project to be constructed without the need for further consents. This gave Forewind a deliverable development vital to the UK achieving its renewable energy generation targets and creating a secure energy supply, Eversheds said.

The Eversheds team was led by partner Paul Maile working alongside partners James Trafford, Marcus Trinick and Stephen Collings.

Paul Maile said: “As leading experts in the sector, we are pleased to have added to our previous successes by securing planning for Dogger Bank Teesside A & B. We have now consented the two largest offshore wind farms in the world, and over the course of these projects we have focussed on achieving not just a consent, but ones that deliver on Forewind’s commercial objectives.

“The project at Teesside will create more commercial activity for the UK economy and jobs for the local community. It is a significant commitment by the consortium and will make a major contribution towards the UK government’s target for renewable energy generation.”

Tarald Gjerde, General Manager at Forewind, said: “Achieving consent for what is currently the world’s largest offshore wind project in development is a major achievement for Forewind and will help confirm the UK’s position as the world leader in the industry. It is testament to the stellar efforts made by the outstanding Forewind team, and to the invaluable support given by Eversheds.”
