Germany Unveils Key Points of Future Tendering Regime

German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has presented key points for renewable energy tendering process. The aim is to determine the competitive level of financial support for electricity from renewable energies and coal mine gas from 2017 onwards.

The key points will now be broadly consulted, the Ministry said in a press release issued on Friday.

The key points are guided by the following objectives:

  • The development corridor for renewable energy should be respected.
  • The tenders are designed to promote competition and thus keep the costs down.
  • The broad range of players in the field of renewable energy is to be maintained.

With the new tendering design, systems should be differentiated according to technologies. A tendering approach for large offshore wind farms should be different than the one for photovoltaic systems on buildings.

This will set the focus on technologies that will make the greatest contribution to achieving the development goals of the energy agreement (EEG) from 2014, namely onshore wind energy, offshore wind energy and solar radiation energy.
