Westermeerwind Onshore Substation Completed

Siemens completed the Westermeerwind onshore substation yesterday.

Now the electricity from turbines will be transported to the substation via electrical wires where it will be converted to a high voltage and feed into the national grid to TenneT, explained Willie Wienholts, Siemens project manager.

Project director Westermeer Wind Peter de Weijs: “This is an important milestone in the project. The completion of the high-voltage substation is a prerequisite to soon be able to put the first wind turbine in use.”

The installation of a total of 44 kilometers of cables between the wind turbines and the onshore substation will be completed this month, according to the developer.

The entire offshore wind farm, comprising forty eight 3 MW turbines, is expected to be ready by mid-February 2016.
