Flensburg University to Host Offshore Wind Symposium

Offshore wind farms will be an important option for the future of renewable energy supply. Their further development, even in busy transport routes  as it is the case with the German Bight, is justified both in terms of energy efficiency and logistics.

However, as a result, this poses a challenge to the safety of shipping in and around those areas.

A symposium on existing and potential problems and possible solutions in offshore wind industry will be held on March 28, 2014 on the campus of the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences.

The event is designed for decision makers, system planners, stakeholders, associations and government agencies.

Experts in the field of planning and operation of such complex systems will discuss the pros and cons as well as the challenges in the context of:  safety aspects related to rescue, salvage, traffic and route guidance, regional and ecological aspects, malfunctions and redundancy considerations, certification and operation.
