Narec CTO Named Vice Chair of IEA Wind Exec Committee

Chief Technology Officer at the National Renewable Energy Centre (Narec), Ignacio Marti, has been elected Vice Chair of the Executive Committee for the International Energy Agency Wind Implementing Agreement (IEA Wind).

The International Energy Agency (IEA) Wind agreement is a vehicle for member countries to exchange information on the planning and execution of national large-scale wind system projects and to undertake co-operative research and development (R&D) projects called Tasks or Annexes.

In 2013, there are 25 contracting parties to this agreement. The contracting parties are designated by the 20 Member Countries, the European Commission, the Chinese Wind Energy Association, and the European Wind Energy Association. (Italy and Norway have two contracting parties.) The official contracting parties to the IEA Wind agreement are listed below.

Patricia Weis-Taylor, Secretary, IEA Wind, said: “We are extremely pleased to have Ignacio on board, especially because he has such a strong background in wind research, particularly within the area of wind resource assessments, as well as an excellent European network of contacts.

“With the UK leading the world in offshore wind, it will also be advantageous to have them more closely involved with IEA Wind, and we look forward to developing a stronger relationship with Ignacio and the UK in the coming years.”

As the UK Contracting Party for the IEA Wind organisation, Narec will be hosting the next Executive Committee meeting in May 2014 as well as organising an industry event to coincide with this visit.
