Iberdrola and Port of Sassnitz Sign Land Use Agreement for Wikinger OWF (Germany)

Iberdrola, represented by its subsidiary Iberdrola Renovables Offshore Deutschland GmbH in Berlin, and the Port of Sassnitz GmbH have signed an agreement on land use today.

This agreement entails the utilization of the Offshore-Terminal South in Sassnitz-Mukran, which will be used for storage and pre-assembly of wind turbine components for the Wikinger offshore wind project. Under the contract, 100,000 m2 will be used during the period of installation.

The main activities at the port include pre-assembly and handling of offshore components such as foundations, piles, jackets, wind turbines and cables, as well as handling of transportation and installation vessels.

In addition to the land use, agreement includes rental of offices located at the terminal for project management, coordination of ships and transfer of employees to the construction site.

The Wikinger project is developed some 30 kilometers off the German Baltic Sea coast. With a capacity of up to 400 MW, it will provide enough energy to power 400,000 homes.
