Germany: Hamburg and Husum Reach Agreement on Venue for Wind Power Trade Show

The two trade fair organizers Hamburg Messe & Congress and Messe Husum & Congress have reached an agreement on the venue for the wind power trade show in 2014. In the compromise reached, Hamburg will host the international trade fair every two years, with Husum being the venue for the national trade fair every other two years starting in 2015.

For 23 years, the small town in Schleswig-Holstein was home to the largest international industry get-together within the wind sector. In 2012, Husum Wind attracted 36,000 international visitors, and the number of exhibitors grew by 20 percent to reach a record level. Starting in 2015, Husum Wind will be the leading trade fair for the German wind sector. The contract was designed to prevent Husum from incurring losses during the current year because of the changes. In September 2014, the international trade fair will take place in the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg for the first time. The spectrum of Hamburg WindEnergy is to reflect the dynamic growth of the international wind sector and simultaneously cover all stages of the value chain. Various media have reported that the two venues also represent the separation between onshore and offshore, but the event organizers emphasize that there is no such separation at their joint press conference on April 29, 2013. At the same time, they also announced their intention to found a joint trade fair company that will allow Hamburg and Husum to take part as equals.BWE President Sylvia Pilarsky-Grosch says she is glad that an agreement has been reached after the extended negotiations and praised everyone for their previous cooperation: “Husum Wind has always been a major industry meeting place for the BWE, and I really only have good things to say about the intensive collaboration up to now. With its special flair and renowned list of exhibitors, Husum Wind has always given the wind sector a top-notch platform. I wish both cities a lot of success for future trade fairs. In this election year, it is particularly important that industry players work together and continue to demonstrate their national and international importance to a large audience in the next few years.”
