SgurrEnergy Supports Growth in Scottish Offshore Wind Industry

SgurrEnergy is providing expert advice and consultancy services to Scottish firms as part of its role in the Scottish Enterprise funded Offshore Wind Expert Support Programme.

In partnership with Innovation Centres (Scotland) and Caithness Renewables, the Glasgow-based consultancy is supporting businesses to diversify into the offshore wind supply chain.

The programme brings together a selection of specialist offshore wind contractors to provide experience, support, consultancy input and advice to companies ranging in type, size and sector who are looking to move into the offshore wind energy sector.

The programme plays a vital role in helping Scottish companies to build diversification and innovation strategies, increase their competitiveness and enable them to win business in the growing UK offshore wind sector.

Strengthening the supply chain is essential for the successful delivery of offshore wind developments in Scotland to meet the Scottish Government’s national target for 100 per cent of Scottish electricity consumption to come from renewables by 2020.

Organisations that register for help through the programme are entitled to two days of free one to one support provided by one of the appointed specialist advisers. SgurrEnergy has already provided its expert services to a number of companies through the programme including Blue Wave Maritime Ltd, a leader in delivering warship sea trial packages.

The Dundee-based firm was keen to investigate the possible application of its range of products and services to the offshore wind and marine energy sector.

John Davies, operations director of Blue Wave Martime Ltd, said: “SgurrEnergy provided an outstanding service to Blue Wave Maritime Ltd as a participant in the Offshore Wind Expert Support Programme. The report was comprehensive and well written, giving us a great insight into the offshore market and helping us to generate interest in our services within the renewables sector.”
