USA: New Bedford Strongly Supports Offshore Wind Development

At a meeting held on Tuesday in New Bedford, offshore wind development in Massachusetts Wind Energy Area was strongly supported by the attendees. The support is based on the fact that offshore wind projects will bring great economy boost and job creation, especially for the city’s young people.

The focus of the meeting was federal permitting of an offshore wind farm. New Bedford is already involved in offshore wind plans with its proposed South Terminal, which will serve as a turbine staging area, hopefully for Cape Wind.

Executive Director of the New Bedford Economic Development Council Matthew Morrissey is cited by the South Coast Today news site as saying: “Without offshore wind, New Bedford would not have the ability to retain our young people.”
