The Netherlands: New Offshore Wind Foundation Deliveries Started at BOW Terminal

BOW terminal has unloaded her first barge with 4 foundation piles for the Dan tysk project.

It is the 12th offshore energy related project since the establishment in 2010. BOW terminal is very excited to act again as an marchalling yard for this large offshore wind project of 80 turbines, the project will take problably up to 3rd quarter of 2013. It will perform in total 40 unloading operations from inlandbarges, and 27 load-outs on a Jack up vessel during a estimated period of 8 months. In between, there will be a variety of additional site works during the storage which will be done by the labour pool of BOW terminal, which includes 150 certified persons such as riggers/lashers/construction workers/crane drivers and terminal operators.

In begin of the operations at the specialized heavy lift terminal, the offshore fields which BOW terminal served, where mainly located at East coast of UK, but since the Project developers and Installation companies recognized the excellent nautical location of BOW terminal Vlissingen (no locks/no bridges/no difficulties with other vessel traffic), the possibility for jacking up at several berth locations and the site facilities itself, BOW terminal is also serving for the Northern located offshore fields, such as Meerwind, Anhold, the extension of Ekofisk and South arne and now the Dan Tysk project

With a experienced team of professionals and the good relationships which are build up in the last 2,5 years with companies as Seaway Heavy Lifting, Ballast Nedam, MPI Ltd and Van Oord, the shareholders of BOW terminal strongly believe that it can play an active role as hub for the Round three offshore wind farms, beside other Energy – and heavy lift related projects around the Northsea in the coming period. The storage capacity of 200.000m2 open storage (15 tons per m2 bearing capacity) and a storage capacity of 60.000m2 under roof, all kind of offshore related components can be stored at the premises of BOW terminal.

For this new project BOW terminal will make use of her recently purchased heavy lifting crane with a capacity of 1200 tons, which is permanent on site available, together with the 32 axle multiwheelers to move the foundations to the laydown area and in later stage under hook of the geared jack-up vessel of a well known Dutch installation company

The DanTysk offshore wind farm, situated west of the island of Sylt and directly on the German-Danish border, will be one of the first large-scale offshore wind farms ever to be built in the German North Sea. Completion of the DanTysk wind farm will see the two energy companies behind the project, Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München, playing a key role in Germany’s energy transition policy. With a total of 80 wind turbines, DanTysk will soon be able to provide up to 400,000 homes with green energy.
