The Netherlands: Chevalier Floatels Acquires Accommodation Barge

Floatel specialist Chevalier Floatels BV has purchased an accommodation barge that is going to be converted in to an accommodation vessel for the offshore and construction industry.

The non-propelled vessel will be called “Sans Vitesse”. The barge that was built in 2003 and has been maintained in very good condition by the previous owners, a municipality in The Netherlands. Despite this the vessel will be upgraded to 88 cabins with en suite bathrooms and showers. The design will make the vessel especially suited to be used as a base for maintenance and construction in the offshore wind industry and other near shore construction projects. Accommodating the engineers as close to the work sight as possible will save the commute to and from the port from hotels, making up for substantial savings. The vessel now is painted in dazzle design. Whether these colours remain will be up to the charterers.

The vessel will be upgraded to encompass 88 cabins with en suite showers and toilets. Furthermore the vessel will feature a restaurant with kitchen, a meeting room, offices, a laundry, and a fitness area. The vessel is expected to be ready in Q1 2013.
