JDR to Open Office in Hamburg, Germany

JDR, a leading supplier of high performance subsea cables and umbilical systems, announces its new German subsidiary – JDR Cable Systems GmbH – and a Hamburg office that will open after it attends Husum Wind Energy 2012. This move follows JDR’s first German contract win with WindMW GmbH for subsea power cables for the Meerwind Sud/Ost offshore wind farm.

Andrew Norman, JDR CEO, commented: “Our new German operation is just the beginning of JDR’s investment in Germany as we work to deliver on our first contract with WindMW and develop our role in the industry-leading German renewables market. The Meerwind wind farm is an exceptionally promising development. It is part of an exciting growth phase in the wind energy market, which is an increasingly important contributor to global power generation. The Meerwind project alone will produce enough electricity to supply 360,000 households and will help Germany eliminate approximately one million tons of carbon emissions per year.

WindMW GmbH is responsible for the planning, construction and operation of the Meerwind wind farm and will utilise over 110km of JDR’s inter-array subsea power cables, complete with JDR’s UK patented hang-off termination. The hang-off greatly improves the speed and safety of installation, lessens vessel on-station time, thereby contributing to overall project economics.

The cables will link 80 individual 3.6 megawatt turbine generators with offshore substations that will generate 288 megawatts of electricity. Meerwind is located approximately 23km north of the island of Helgoland and is expected to be completed in 2013.

Sebastian Schmidt, CFO WindMW: “WindMW is glad to have such a competent partner on board. We are sure that we will be able to meet all targeted schedules with the commitment of all project participants involved.”

JDR has been involved across a diverse range of subsea power cable applications and has a range of products that enable operators to manage the challenge of subsea environments. All of JDR’s subsea cables are manufactured at its new facility in Hartlepool.

The JDR team will be at Husum Wind Energy 2012 from 18 – 22 September at Stand 3BO1.
