Fujian Province Key to Chinese Offshore Wind Development

The fact that Chinese wind turbine manufacturers and province-owned companies have launched wind power projects in Fujian province, both onshore and offshore, confirms that this is one of the key areas that will lead the country to its 2020 national energy production goals.

The Fujian province has some of the richest offshore wind power resources in China, thanks to the winds along its coastal areas that are brought by numerous tropical storms, RenewableEnergyWorld news site writes.

Also, the China’s first 5MW direct drive permanent-magnet generator wind turbine is located in that area, which will generate around 15GW of electricity per year, once connected to the grid.

This project is believed to be the starting point of a huge expansion of the wind power sector in the Fujian province.

Offshore wind power resources in China are estimated to be threefold higher than the onshore ones, totalling 750GW, therefore the sector’s development is expected to speed up in the next five years.
