National Wind Farm Training Centre, which provides training to the wind energy industry, has been awarded RenewablesUK’s renowned Training Standards and Accreditation for promoting and delivering best practice health and safety training and competence standards.

The RenewableUK training standards are only intended to address the most significant health and safety training issues as they relate to the relevant subject area. The standards apply to renewable energy activities subject to the jurisdiction of UK health and safety law.

The standards are intended to ensure a common approach to basic training delivered by an approved training provider under controlled condition, a spokesperson for RenewableUK, the country’s largest wind and marine energy association said.

RenewableUK training standards have been developed by the RenewableUK Health & Safety Training Sub Group. This process is undertaken at the request of RenewableUK member organisations and stakeholders, and is overseen by the RenewableUK Health & Safety Strategy Group.

Consultation with all member organisations and key stakeholders is sought at each stage of the development of training standards.

The industry recognised RenewableUK accreditation underlines our total commitment to health and safety and shows that we have the competence and management system to deliver training to its high standards, commented Colin Urquhart, Director at NWFTC.

The Working at Height & Rescue Training – Wind Turbines training standard outlines the basic safety training and competence recomended by RenewableUK for all personnel involved in working at heights in wind turbines.

This training standard has been developed in consultation with key industry representatives covering OEMs, developers, training providers, construction and supply chain partners and key industry stakeholders. It has been designed to ensure that all personnel operating in the wind sector are able to demonstrate a common level of basic competency for working at height and rescue within a wind turbine.

The RenewableUK Marine Safety Training  Vessel Transit and Transfer Standard outlines the basic safety training and competence required by RenewableUK for all personnel involved in Vessel Transit and Transfer for passengers.

It has been created to ensure that all personnel operating in the offshore renewable energy sector are able to demonstrate a common level of basic competency for small work boat vessel transfer to offshore renewable energy facilities.
