Construction Starts at DanTysk Offshore Wind Farm

The main DanTysk construction campaign in 2014 has kicked off as of Friday.

The harbor of Esbjerg is currently a hub of activities, as the vessel Pacific Osprey has arrived there – timely for loading of the first turbines.

The first 3.6 MW turbines from Siemens were loaded onto the installation vessel. Vessel and harbor crew ensured safe and fast loading. Even dense fog, which prevented work partly during Saturday night, did not lead to a delay and the vessel departed on time for its first trip to the DanTysk offshore wind farm.

The grid connection delay postponed the wind turbine installation process in order to avoid having turbines standing offshore, idling for a period well above a year without producing power. This would have been a severe risk to the equipment such as bearings, gear boxes and electronic components. Now, with the grid connection being forecasted for the last quarter of this year, Vattenfall expects a summer of smoothly executed construction progress.
