USA: Japanese Company Challenges Tidal Power Project

Pacific Crossing, a Japanese company that owns an underwater fiberoptic telecommunications cable that connects the U.S. to Asia, expressed its concerns about the tidal power project with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the EarthFix news site says.

The tidal power pilot project is being developed on the bottom of Puget Sound by Snohomish Public Utility District.

The cable passes close to a proposed tidal power installation and the Japanese company says that the maintenance work will be difficult to perform with the turbines installed on that location.
