CS Wind Vietnam Rolls Out First Towers for South Korean Offshore Wind Farm

Wind Farm Update

CS Wind’s yard in Ba Ria Vung Tau, Vietnam, has produced the first wind turbine tower for an offshore wind farm that Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and SK E&S are building in South Korea.

According to a social media post by Stuart Livesey, CEO of Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) Vietnam, CS Wind is manufacturing towers under a contract with Siemens Gamesa for the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm CIP is delivering with its partner SK E&S in Korea, the 99 MW Jeonnam I.

CIP and South Korea’s energy company SK E&S partnered several years ago and are one of the four partnerships and investors which signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Ulsan in 2019 to build and operate floating wind farms in the country.

In June last year, the Danish developer signed an Investment Notification Form for USD 350 million (approximately EUR 328 million) from CIP’s Flagship funds to support the development and construction of gigawatt-scale offshore wind projects in South Korea.

CIP has been developing offshore wind projects in the country since 2018 and has already secured Electric Business Licenses (EBLs) for several of its offshore wind farms there.

The projects include both fixed-bottom and floating wind farms, located in the Jeonnam Province, including Shinan County, Yeonggwang County, and the Ulsan region – and are being developed by Copenhagen Offshore Partners, CIP’s exclusive offshore wind development partner.

In October 2023, SK E&S and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners reached financial close for the Jeonnam I project and said this was the first Korean commercial-scale offshore wind farm that would go into operation.
