TÜV Rheinland Wins Testing Contract from Vestas

German testing service provider TÜV Rheinland has won a contract from Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas to test 27 of the company’s offshore wind turbines at the 257 MW Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm.

Under the contract, TÜV Rheinland will test lifts, cranes, pressure vessels, and safety-related components of the turbines.

Numerous components will be tested while still in port to eliminate many of the costly tests on the high seas, with the final offshore test being reduced to a minimum.

The turbines, scheduled to start operation in 2023, will be tested before commissioning.

The Arcadis Ost 1 offshore wind farm, located in the German territorial waters of the Baltic Sea and developed and owned by Belgian developer Parkwind, is expected to generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of up to 290,000 households.
