Fugro to Probe German Offshore Wind Zones

Fugro Germany Land GmbH has won a contract to provide geotechnical investigation services, including lab work, in the German North Sea and the Baltic Sea from 2019 to 2022.

The tender, issued by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (Das Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH)), was divided into three lots: Geotechnical exploration North Sea 2019, Geotechnical exploration Baltic Sea 2019, Geotechnical exploration North Sea 2020 to 2022. The contract is valued at EUR 25 million.

In the North Sea 2019 lot, the survey will be conducted in two areas between the traffic separation areas German Bight Western Approach and Terschelling German Bight.

In the Baltic Sea 2019 lot, the survey will be carried out in an area 38 kilometres northeast of the island of Rügen, adjacent to Wikinger and Arkona offshore wind farms.

The geotechnical exploration works include drilling, core sampling and investigation, pressure probing, borehole geophysics, laboratory investigations, as well as documentation in the context of a preliminary investigation in accordance with the German Offshore Wind Energy Act (WindSeeG).

Drilling and pressure probing will be carried out at up to 80 meters from the seabed surface, in water depths of up to 50 meters.

The first two lots are to be completed by 15 November 2019. Lot 3 covers the investigations on a total of 15 sites from 2020 to 2022.
