NKT’s scope of work included the design, engineering, supply and installation of the 155kV underground and offshore cable system, the onshore and offshore shunt reactors, the onshore 155/220kV power transformer and the extension of an existing 220kV substation.

The cable system comprises 3×4 kilometers of single-core AC underground cable and 28 kilometers of three core AC submarine cable with integrated fiber optics, produced at the cable factory in Karlskrona, Sweden.

Nordergründe, located in the German North Sea, is part of Energiewende, the German government’s strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the country’s energy mix.

TenneT commissioned the grid connection for the wind farm in October, following the installation of the wind farm’s substation.

The 110MW Nordergründe wind farm is delivered and operated by the wpd Group, with electricity generation coming from 18 Senvion 6.2 M126 turbines.
