Blue Water Shipping has provided turnkey logistics to the 42MW offshore wind farm on behalf of Finnish wind production company Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy. The turbine installation had been originally expected to be completed by mid-July, however the last Siemens 4MW wind turbine was put in place on 3 July.

“The close cooperation between Suomen Hyötytuuli Oy and the different contractors was perfect and everybody worked towards the common goal of completing the project according to schedule and always with safety as first priority,” said Rasmus Svane Nielsen, the company’s Project Manager.

During a three-month period, Blue Water took care of the onshore logistics on the wind turbine preassembly site of Tahkoluoto, using their own equipment and local service providers. This also included transfer of the components to storage, upending, transfer to load out position for the jack-up installation vessel Vole Au Vent, all performed by the company’s terminal operators and coordinated by the project manager.

Tahkoluoto is being developed off the Port of Pori, Finland, and is the first offshore wind farm designed for icy conditions. Siemens was contracted to supply, install and commission its ten 4MW wind turbines at the site, and will also be in charge of servicing the turbines.

The Tahkoluoto wind farm is slated for commissioning in September.
