Expertise Hub VIDEO: 66kV Cable Technology Brings In New Opportunities (JDR Cable Systems)

The 66kV cable technology opens up new space within an offshore wind project’s supply chain as it brings some novel features, and this is especially true for floating wind.

Floating offshore wind creates an interesting opportunity for companies who have worked in, for example, offshore oil and gas dynamic systems, according to James Young, Chief Technology Officer at JDR Cable Systems, whose 66kV technology was recently awarded a floating wind debut on the WindFloat Atlantic project. Find out more by watching our Expertise Hub interview.

The technology has also been deemed to make some room in an always tight budget of the industry which is putting an enormous effort into cutting the project – and thus the power – costs as much as possible.

For JDR, its offshore wind cable technology portfolio is opening doors to new markets, where the company could further expand its reach.

Namely, prior to winning the contract for Portuguese WindFloat and UK’s East Anglia ONE, JDR was selected as the preferred supplier of both inter-array and export cables for US Wind’s offshore wind farm in Maryland. Furthermore, the company is looking to take part in the emerging offshore wind markets in Asia, such as Taiwan.
