2016 is expected to be another record year as the second largest offshore wind farm in the world, Gwynt y Môr, came on line mid-2015 and so too did its GBP 19 million community windfall, according to RWE .

The Gwynt y Môr fund is the largest fund to be linked with any of RWE’s renewables fleet operating anywhere in Europe.

“In a time of austerity, community funds from onshore and offshore wind farms are often helping to plug the gaps left by cuts. We are really proud to be supporting communities neighbouring our projects and the funds provided are not insignificant either. In many cases, our community funds are the enabling factor which allow local projects to go ahead,” said Paul Cowling, Managing Director of RWE Innogy UK.

RWE Innogy UK supports community projects and groups through its fleet of onshore, offshore wind farms and hydroelectric power stations, with investment decisions being taken by local people.
